This is my story.

Hi, I'm Alyssa

There’s something about being vulnerable and embracing the power of your personal story that feels like the right place to start:

When my father was tragically killed, his absence left an enormous gap in my life that was difficult for me to understand. I hid my anger, sadness, and confusion behind silence and obedience. I did my best not to cause any problems for my mother who was unexpectedly hurled into single motherhood and grieving the loss of someone she thought she would be with every day for the rest of her life.  Like many people who’ve experienced a rupture in their parental relationship, I felt abandoned.

Often when people have childhood abandonment wounds, they unintentionally bring people into their lives who are emotionally unavailable, inconsistent, dismissive, incompatible, or abusive. I experienced my version of this and experienced grief in layers. In early adulthood, I found a road that would lead me from my stuck place, into my happy place

I define the “happy place” as a place where you give only as much as you are willing to and nothing more. It’s a place where we trust ourselves and our intuition. Where we tolerate the temporary discomfort of emotions, process them, learn from them, and let them go. It’s where we reveal our authentic selves and embrace vulnerability. We enter this place when we ask for what we need, fully accept who we are, and speak to ourselves with compassion.  In your happy place, it feels good to be you.

The healing journey is rarely short and easy-going, it’s full of pot holes, detours, multiple-car pile ups and hail storms, but you simply won’t reach your happy place without it.

I experienced the transformational power of the mind-body connection through yoga, mindfulness & talk therapy. These components, which have been essential to my process, are the foundation of my therapeutic and coaching practice.

I received my Master’s in Social Welfare from the University of California, Berkeley, and spent nearly 10 years serving students and their families as a therapist in the school system. After becoming licensed in 2019, I began building my practice supporting adults who are struggling with some of the manifestations of relational trauma (limiting beliefs, anxiety, depression, grief, and self-sabotage).  I have extensive training and experience with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Somatic Techniques, Grief support, and Mindfulness Practices.

My services include individual Somatic Psychotherapy, Mental Health Training and Consultation. I also offer a mindful healing workshop that incorporates yoga, meditation and journaling.
